Call of the Dead

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

I don’t actually own any Call of Duty games although I have played one of them a wee bit. This however could be the first one I purchase… even though it’s pretty much Left 4 Dead you can never say no to Zombie shootin. Plus, this video totally sold it to me at 1 minute 17 seconds – now I’ve typed that, you have to watch it!

A game called “Fez”

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

I’m not even going to attempt to explain “Fez”, except to say it’s a new Xbox Arcade game due out anytime now. Watching the video should explain… erm. Watching the video will make your head hurt and also make you want the game. You have been warned.

Tiny Wings iPhone game

ArsTechnica have recently posted an article about “Tiny Wings” commenting on it’s small file size and instant gameplay. For me, it has one of the most beautiful & endearing promotional videos so far this year.

I’m buying “Tiny Wings” just now and will report back later… via ArsTechnica

Best gaming achievement ever

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

This is an amazing video clip about Terry Garrett, a completely blind 23 year old mechanical engineering who has figured out how to play through and beat Abe’s Exoddus.

It really is quite an outstanding achievement and I reckon there is a lot to learn for designers here, particularly for online. Web site design and accessibilty are essential ingerdients when building for a government agency but more often than not can be forgotten in favour of rich experiences for private ventures.

I’m guilty of this myself as some of the site design I did in the past was not that accessible. But it doesnt need to be that way as Abe’s Exoddus shows. Intelligent use of audio can help the partially sighted engage and have a rich experice. Furthermore a well coded and thought out design can help make the online experience better for all users, disabled or otherwise.

Kudos goes to Simon for the link. Now I need to try harder at computer games!
