Ethical questions by the MoD

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

A recent article in the Guardian has thrown up some interesting ethical questions for the UK Ministry of Defence, can robots be used in war ?

In theory war without loss of human life, well any organic life for that matter should be applauded. But as the article indicates taking the human out of the equation could lead to more blood loss and loss of life on a binary scale – if a robot is programmed to kill all humans, it will kill all humans irrespective of their “side”.

Maybe the MoD need to take a lesson from a ceratin James Cameron film and in all honesty, why not try it a different way… not fighting at all.
